Molly & Stella

Here are some pics of Stella with her cousin Molly who is a few months older than her. They had a great time knocking down the towers we built with Stella's new Maisy stacking cubes (courtesy of Aunty Kath). Molly was a bit quicker off the mark to get to the blocks but Stella enjoyed watching the action!

Growing Up

Here is Stella in her cool tracksuit, she is growing up so fast, I thought it would be ages before she would fit it. We started feeding her some solids last weekend which she has taken to pretty enthusiastically. Apple seems to be the fave so far, not surprising that she has a sweet tooth. Other grown up things she is doing: grabbing her cup by the handles and having a drink (after a few attempts to get the spout into her mouth!), enjoying a swing at the park (have yet to get pics of this).

Stella's Great Gran and Great Aunt Hilary visited earlier this week and Stella put on a great show of smiles for them. Her hair was looking a little crazy that day as she was covered in aqueous cream to get rid of her cradle cap. The eczema (yes I've figured out how to spell it right!) is still a nuisance with lots of face rubbing and leg scratching if we don't keep a close eye on her. We've got an appointment with a specialist in November to give us a hand with keeping it under control.

Happy Birthday Rebecca

Yesterday, Stella went to her first birthday party. Her friend Rebecca turned two and had a ladybird themed party. Stella enjoyed riding the rocking horse and watching everyone eat the delicious party food. Rebecca had a great time, particularly investigating the garden in her fairy outfit. Stella even got given a party bag at the end which included these cute ladybird antennae.

Stella Loves Her Dad

Stella's little face almost always lights up with a big smile when she sees her Dad, a lovely reward after a hard day's work. Mark and Stella had a big toyfest the other day where pretty much everything got pulled out of the toy box, I must say it looked like a bit more fun than the few I pull out each time she plays! I took Stella into town to visit Mark at work today, dressed up in another one of her American outifts. There weren't too many smiles but not too much crying either which was good. She was pooped by the time we got home as you can see by the picture of her in the car seat.

Minnie Mouse

Here is Stella looking cute as can be in her Minnie Mouse outfit that came in a box full of goodies from her Poppa and Grandma in Long Beach, California a few months back. She seems to be back to her old self today after a few days being out of sorts following her 5 month jabs. It probably didn't help that she needed a short course of antibiotics for her cheek which got a bit infected after her nap time scratchfest the other day. Her excema comes and goes but its still spreading. We're slowly changing and eliminating things to see if they make a difference such as laundry liquid, bedding, nappies etc.

Baby Banz

I decided it was time to invest in some sun protection for Stella. We have heaps of hats courtesy of Holly but no sunglasses so I found some called Baby Banz which have a soft strap that wraps around her head and can be extended as she grows due to a loop of velcro on the side. She wasn't too sure of them but didn't try to take them off... few a few minutes anyway!

5 Months Old Today

Here are some pictures I took of Stella yesterday, she has started to take a lot of interest in her toes which is very cute. She is also taking a lot more interest in her surroundings so when she is nearing nap time she chills out in her bouncer by the open sliding door and watches the trees moving in the wind. I've included a 'Stella's eye view' of what she sees from the bouncer.

Today Stella had her five month check with Plunket and weighs 8.78kgs and is 69.5cms long, still around the 97th percentile for her age group. Her excema isn't great, I still swaddle her when she sleeps but unfortunately her hand escaped yesterday and she scratched her cheek quite badly. We are visiting the doctor tomorrow before her immunisations so will see what she suggests to help with the excema.

Visiting Granny and Grandpa

On Sunday we went to visit Stella's Granny and Grandpa. Her sleeping had been a bit out of whack that morning but she still managed some good smiles and even a nap in her carry cot which she is almost to long for. Karen and Holly visited with some more clothes, the dark pink top and stripy pants are a great fit. Holly is 13 months old now and had fun playing with Stella's toys.

Stella enjoys having a good suck on her two fingers (apparently something I used to do), not keen on the thumb yet. Yesterday her friend Greta came around for a visit with her Mum Nicola, they had some time together on the floor and are more interested in looking at each other these days, quite a nice picture of them holding hands.

The Gang

We lined the babies up again this morning. Its been a couple of months since we took group photos, unsurprisingly they were a little less compliant this time, there was lots of wriggling going on but we managed. From left to right: Sophie, James, Stella, Benjamin, Isobel, Marcus, Millie and Lucas. Millie was a bit unhappy so Michelle rescued her before the end of the photo shoot. Stella couldn't quite muster up a smile but lasted ok til the end when it all got a bit much!

Staying with Nana

As previously mentioned, we were at Nana K's for a few days this week while Mark was away in Melbourne. I wanted to try Stella out in the portacot to see how she slept in a different environment. She was a little unsettled for her first sleep but quickly got used to it and sometimes even settled better than she does in her cot! Hopefuly this bodes well for future holidays away.

We had a lovely few days at Nana's with visits from Michelle and Millie as well as Sharon and Marcus. The shot with Marcus shows Stella being very interested in the toy Marcus was holding, she'd already pinched one of his toys but seemed to forget it was in her left hand! Mum was looking after a little boy called Giles during the school holidays, Stella seemed quite taken with him.

Last Weekend

Got a bit behind posts as Stella and I went to stay with Nana K for a few days while Mark was attending a course in Melbourne. We were still recovering from the last of our colds over the weekend so it was pretty low key. Stella's Aunties Kath & Claire visited with presents from their recent holiday in Port Douglas, a very cool retro orange pair of pants and floral pinafore from the markets for Stella, will be a perfect fit for the summer.

Speaking of retro, Mum gave us a stack of my old books so we had a 70's revival reading Stella Dr Seuss - The Lorax and The Sleep Book - as well as other faves from my childhood. I also came across some Maurice Sendak books which reminded me of a Carole King record we had as kids called Really Rosie where Sendak's words were put to music. After a quick internet search, I managed to find some Dr Seuss as well as Really Rosie on CD at www.fishpond.co.nz for a great price. I hope Stella enjoys them as much as I did!
